Excide Reveals Second Album Title ‘Bastard Hymns’ Alongside Debut Single ‘Worth Your Salt’
Excide, a rising post-hardcore band, consisting of Tyler Washington, Gill Gonzalez, Gage Lanza, Caleb Hogue, and Jacob Paris, have recently unveiled the details about their upcoming second album Bastard Hymns, which is set to be released on November 28 through SharpTone Records.
This new album marks a significant progression from their debut album, Deliberate Revolver, and signifies an exciting new phase for the band from North Carolina, as they continue to carve out a unique niche within the modern heavy music scene. In anticipation of the album release, Excide has just released the first single, “Worth Your Salt,” along with a music video that pays tribute to classic 80’s crime films.
Reflecting on the title of the track, frontman Tyler Washington shares, “‘Worth Your Salt’ is derived from an old expression that I found intriguing and wanted to use as a dual meaning for a song. It speaks to the idea that some individuals simply are not deserving of the attention or criticism they receive. Through my experiences, I’ve learned that closed-mindedness often stems from ignorance or insecurity. This song delves into the realization that beneath the tough exterior, those who are quick to criticize often lack substance to support their bravado.”
The band’s music video for “Worth Your Salt” captures the essence of 80’s action movies, drawing inspiration from classics like the Lethal Weapon series. Vocalist Tyler Washington elaborates on the concept behind the visual, stating, “We wanted to create a whimsical music video that parodies the cliches of 80’s crime films. It was a blast to work on, and we hope it brings as much joy to our fans as it did to us during production.”
The single not only showcases the band’s aggressive musical style but also adds a touch of humor and playfulness, showcasing the multi-dimensional talent of Excide. Their forthcoming album, Bastard Hymns, represents a record that was born out of adversity but fueled by artistic liberty.
Regarding the creative process behind the album, the band expressed, “We’re thrilled to announce the release of our second full-length album, Bastard Hymns, this winter. Putting this record together was a challenging journey, and we are grateful for the unwavering support of our dedicated team that helped bring this project to fruition. Welcome to the next phase of Excide.”
Bastard Hymns builds upon the foundation laid down by Deliberate Revolver, infusing a wider range of sonic elements into their music. Drawing influences from late 90’s post-hardcore bands like Cast Iron Hike and Snapcase, as well as incorporating melodic textures inspired by Quicksand and Cave In, Excide pushes the boundaries of their sound by incorporating elements of bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, and Failure. The result is an album that the band describes as “fuzzy, rocky, groovy, and angry, reflecting the struggles of growing up in a tumultuous environment.”
With the guidance of co-writer and producer Austin Coupe, Excide has expanded their musical horizons, embracing new musical territories and exploring uncharted sonic landscapes. Since their inception during the uncertainty of 2020, Excide has been making waves in the post-hardcore scene with their distinct sound and uncompromising approach to music. The release of their debut album, Deliberate Revolver, garnered attention from prominent music outlets, solidifying their position as an exciting new force in hardcore music.
As anticipation builds for the release of Bastard Hymns, fans can expect a diverse and dynamic musical experience that showcases the evolution and growth of Excide as a band. Stay tuned for the official release of Bastard Hymns on November 28 via SharpTone Records.
