“Bringing Nebraska into the electric age with a punk rockabilly vibe”
Bruce Springsteen fans are in for a treat this year as The Boss continues to release new music and surprises. Following the release of Tracks Two in June, a collection of seven lost albums, the next month brings a double feature: a biopic of Springsteen and an unexpected electric version of his 1982 album, Nebraska.
Nebraska, known for its raw and unadorned sound, was originally recorded by Springsteen himself on a 4-track in his New Jersey home. However, recent discoveries have revealed that there exists an electric version of the album, contrary to previously held beliefs. When questioned about the existence of an electric Nebraska earlier this year, Springsteen denied any recollection but later confirmed its presence in the archives. This revelation has piqued the interest of fans and critics alike, eager to hear these new interpretations of classic tracks.
The electric versions of Nebraska tracks are set to be released as part of a new Nebraska box set on October 17. Among the songs that received the electric treatment are iconic tracks like Atlantic City, Johnny 99, and Reason To Believe. Additionally, a surprising version of Born In The USA, with a country twist and a different melody, will be included in the set. Springsteen, backed by his band members Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent, explained that during the recording process, they stripped away the keyboards and aimed to create a punk rockabilly vibe, merging the rawness of Nebraska with a new electric sound.
Coinciding with the box set release is the debut of the biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, featuring Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen, Jeremy Strong as manager Jon Landau, and Odessa Young as a love interest. Set in the same era as Nebraska and Born In The USA, the film offers a glimpse into Springsteen’s life and creative process during this pivotal period of his career. Despite achieving mainstream success with hits like Hungry Heart and The River, Springsteen finds himself at a crossroads creatively, unsure of how to approach his next album and do justice to the songs he has written.
In addition to these exciting releases, there are whispers of a forthcoming Tracks Three album, which promises to deliver even more unreleased material from Springsteen’s extensive archives. As fans eagerly anticipate these new releases and rediscoveries, it’s clear that The Boss continues to captivate audiences with his timeless music and ever-evolving artistry.
