The nature of the threats and the identities of those arrested were not immediately disclosed.

“We are taking all threats against our students, faculty, and staff extremely seriously,” said Beau Mason, the commissioner of public safety. “Citizens should not have to fear for their safety while exercising their right to free speech.”

Authorities would not comment on any possible link between the arrests and Kirk’s assassination. The FBI said he “is believed to be the shooter in the homicide investigation” and urged anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately.

The images were released as officials revealed more details about the shooting at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was speaking in front of a large crowd when he was shot. Officials said the shooter had fired a single shot from a high-powered hunting rifle before fleeing the scene.

Investigators said they obtained clues from the crime scene including a palm print, a shoe impression, and a weapon found in a nearby wooded area. They have not yet announced a motive for the attack or identified the suspect. The FBI said it was offering up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible.
