Singer Vince Neil attributes stroke as reason for delay in Mötley Crüe’s…
Mötley Crüe’s highly anticipated Las Vegas residency, initially scheduled for March to April, faced a setback when it was postponed due to Vince Neil’s undisclosed medical issues. Neil had to undergo what was described as a “required medical procedure” by the band. The updated dates for September to October took place at Dolby Live at Park MGM and kicked off just recently.
However, an unforeseen revelation by Vince Neil to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, as reported by NME, disclosed that the reason behind the cancellation was not just for a medical procedure; it was due to a paralysing stroke he suffered in December of 2024. Neil shared that the stroke left him unable to use the entirety of his left side, leading to months of physical therapy to regain mobility. Despite the paralysis affecting his ability to walk, his voice remained intact throughout the ordeal. Neil admitted, “It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs, for them to do what your brain wants to do. You try to walk but it doesn’t come out right.”
Neil’s recovery journey from being completely dependent on others for basic mobility needs, such as being carried to the bathroom, to regaining his independence by graduating from a wheelchair to a walker and finally to a cane, has been nothing short of inspirational. His determination to defy the odds and return to the stage with Mötley Crüe, as doctors initially doubted, showcases his resilience and commitment to his craft.
Following the rescheduling of their Las Vegas residency, Mötley Crüe also withdrew from the Boardwalk Rock festival due to health concerns, alluding to Neil’s medical procedure as the primary reason for their absence. Months later, when questioned on Twitter about their absence from Black Sabbath’s farewell event, Nikki Sixx hinted at “health issues within the band,” which was initially linked to Neil’s medical procedure.
As of now, Mötley Crüe has commenced their Las Vegas residency without any complications, and Vince Neil is back to almost full strength. The fact that only 10% of stroke patients achieve a full recovery makes Neil’s progress all the more remarkable. With the majority requiring ongoing care due to severe impairment, Neil’s journey back to normalcy is indeed a near miracle.
The band’s first set at the residency featured a star-studded lineup of their iconic hits, from “Too Fast For Love” to “Kickstart My Heart.” The electrifying performance left fans in awe of the band’s enduring talent and Neil’s remarkable comeback. As the residency continues, Mötley Crüe’s legacy in the rock industry remains immortalized, with their music serving as a timeless testament to their enduring spirit and passion for the stage.
