Mirador’s Debut Album Released, “Must I Go Bound” Video Shared, Tour Expanded to 31 Dates
Mirador, the latest musical project founded by Jake Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet and Chris Turpin of Ida Mae, has recently released their debut album under Republic Records. This album was unveiled alongside a captivating new music video for the track “Must I Go Bound,” directed by Gus Black in collaboration with Kiszka and Turpin. Filmed in Turpin’s hometown of Bath, this song puts a fresh spin on an old English ballad with raw acoustic instrumentation and dual vocals, recorded live in Savannah under the guidance of Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb.
Kiszka explains that the band’s unique sound draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of folklore, blues, and mysticism that have historically influenced the rock genre. “As soon as we ventured into unfamiliar territory, we knew we were onto something special,” he reflects. Turpin adds, “Our music thrives in those traditions – the mythos of crossroads, encounters with devils – and Mirador truly embodies that world.”
The formation of Mirador was a result of Kiszka and Turpin’s fruitful collaboration following their joint tour in 2018, where Ida Mae supported Greta Van Fleet in Detroit. Their natural chemistry blossomed into late-night jam sessions and eventually evolved into a full-fledged partnership. Following a month-long stint opening for Greta Van Fleet on the Starcatcher world tour in 2024, the band channeled their live energy into the studio with Cobb, crafting their debut release in just a span of two weeks.
The album showcases a diverse sonic landscape, oscillating between heavy blues-infused riffs on tracks like “Feels Like Gold” and “Heels of the Hunt” to more ethereal, atmospheric sounds on pieces like “Skyway Drifter.” Guitar World commended their instrumental prowess, describing it as “explosive… with intertwining, growling solos that hit hard,” while Revolver lauded their music as “rock riffage that conjures the spirits of the past” when paired with vintage amplifiers.
In addition to Kiszka and Turpin, the band’s lineup includes Mikey Sorbello on drums and Nick Pini on bass and keys. Mirador is currently embarked on a U.S. headlining tour, which was met with overwhelming demand leading to additional dates being added due to the initial shows selling out rapidly. The tour spans 31 destinations, including major cities like New York, Nashville, Los Angeles, London, and Dublin, with support from Linka Moja.
