The Canadian band, Yukon Blonde, has recently released a new stripped-down rock album titled Friendship & Rock ‘n’ Roll on September 19. This new album marks a shift towards simplicity and a return to the band’s roots after nearly two decades of making music together. Comprised of members Jeffery Innes, Graham Jones, Brandon Scott, and James Younger, Yukon Blonde’s latest album serves as a tribute to their enduring friendships within the band and their love for music.

Inspired by a variety of musical influences such as power pop, the Beatles, 70s rock, and classic rock, Friendship & Rock ‘n’ Roll brings together the sounds that have shaped the band’s musical journey. Taking a step back to their origins, Yukon Blonde wanted to create an album that encapsulated their shared passion for rock and roll and the joy of making music together.

The songwriting process for this album was a collaborative effort, with each band member contributing ideas that were then collectively developed in their rehearsal space. Embracing a more communal approach to creating music, Yukon Blonde strayed from their usual recording process by focusing on live jam sessions to capture the energy and authenticity of their music.

By returning to a more basic and organic way of recording, Yukon Blonde aimed to ensure that the songs felt genuine and resonated with their live performance energy. This approach allowed the band members to immerse themselves in the music and express themselves freely, resulting in a raw and unfiltered sound that embodies the spirit of rock and roll.

Despite facing the challenges of a lengthy Canadian tour, Yukon Blonde is excited to hit the road with their new album and share their music with audiences across the country. Looking forward to the camaraderie and shared experiences of touring with his bandmates, James Younger describes Yukon Blonde as a “kind of dysfunctional family” bound by their love for music and each other.

As the band embarks on their tour, they aim to deliver an authentic and organic rock experience that reflects the essence of their new album. With a smaller touring footprint, Yukon Blonde will be traveling as a tight-knit group of four, further emphasizing the camaraderie and bonds shared among the band members.

After two decades of making music together, Yukon Blonde’s latest album represents a return to their musical origins and a celebration of their enduring friendships both within the band and with one another. Friendship & Rock ‘n’ Roll is not just an album, but a testament to the power of music to bring people together and create lasting bonds that transcend time and distance.
