Band EARTHSET releases new single “Zemlja” after focusing on silent film scores for years
Earthset is making a comeback to the world of singles with their latest release, “Zemlja,” after a hiatus dedicated to providing soundtracks for silent films. The band, consisting of Luigi Varanese, Emanuele Orsini, Costantino Mazzoccoli, and Ezio Romano, has, over the years, explored the wide spectrum of rock music, with each of their albums offering a unique blend of alternative, indie, and experimental elements.
Since their debut album, “In a State of Altered Unconsciousness” in 2015, Earthset has never been confined to a single genre. Their following releases, “POPISM” in 2017 and “bound” in 2022, showcased a seamless mix of noise, melody, and a diverse array of influences, ranging from hardcore to post-rock. The band’s versatility in exploring different sounds has always made their music unpredictable and engaging.
In addition to their own discography, Earthset has established a strong connection with the world of cinema. Collaborating with institutions like the Cineteca di Bologna and Soundscreen Film Festival di Ravenna, they have produced several cine-concerts, adding a new dimension to their artistic expression. The band’s most recent project, the soundtrack for “Nosferatu,” was released in October 2023, showcasing their ability to create immersive, atmospheric music.
With the release of “Zemlja,” Earthset takes a deliberate step back to the world of traditional songwriting, signaling a new chapter for the band. The track explores themes of anger, fear, and helplessness, reflecting a reality that often feels chaotic and filled with negativity. Despite the darkness of the lyrics, there is an underlying message of hope and resilience, as the band urges listeners to envision a brighter future where unity and connection with the earth prevail.
The lyrics of “Zemlja” display a sense of urgency and a call to action, inviting listeners to confront their emotions and take charge of their destinies. The song’s chorus emphasizes the band’s commitment to creating a space for dreaming and self-expression, away from the constraints imposed by society.
Written collaboratively by Orsini, Romano, Varanese, and Mazzoccoli, “Zemlja” was recorded and mixed by Mazzoccoli at OL – Music Studio, with mastering done by Claudio Adamo at Fonoprint Studios. The song serves as a powerful statement of Earthset’s artistic vision, combining introspective lyrics with powerful instrumentation to create a compelling listening experience.
As Earthset embarks on this new phase of their musical journey, “Zemlja” stands as a testament to the band’s ability to evolve and adapt while staying true to their unique sound. With a rich history of experimentation and collaboration, Earthset continues to push boundaries and challenge expectations, cementing their place as one of the most exciting acts in the alternative rock scene.
