Katy Guillen & The Drive, a Kansas City duo, have debuted their latest single, titled “Goodbye Charlie.” Comprised of Katy Guillen on vocals and guitar and Stephanie Williams on drums, the duo aims to create a supportive environment for women in music both on and off the stage. Their ultimate objective is to infuse the recording process with more feminine energy.
Having unveiled their first EP, Dream Girl, in 2020 before the initial COVID lockdown, the duo has now released “Goodbye Charlie” and their previous single “Outcome” as a preview of their upcoming second album, Make That Sound. Guillen expressed the desire to work with more women in the studio, resulting in a decision to collaborate with producer Megan McCormick. McCormick noted that the recording process for the new album was intensive and required full presence.
The new single, “Goodbye Charlie,” offers a blend of Katy Guillen & The Drive’s distinctive spiky garage rock sound with a hint of sweetness and a ballad-like quality. Featuring a mix of buzzy basslines, shoegaze-style guitars, and a bursting, staccato drumbeat, Guillen’s vocals soar above the track, combining strength and sweetness seamlessly.
Following the album release in October, the duo plans to embark on a tour, including festival dates in support of UK guitarist Robin Tower. Fans can stay connected with Katy Guillen & The Drive through Instagram and their website.
In the realm of indie rock, Katy Guillen & The Drive’s latest endeavors are setting the stage for a new chapter in their musical journey. Their dedication to amplifying feminine energy in music and exploring new soundscapes with “Goodbye Charlie” and their upcoming album is sure to captivate audiences and showcase the duo’s growth and evolution in the music industry.
