Almost 500 days have passed since Brittany Ferguson tragically lost her life when a rock was thrown through her car’s windshield. The incident occurred on Conley Road in Burke County, and the authorities are intensifying their efforts to identify the individual responsible for this heinous act. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has now established a tip line and is working on setting up a reward to incentivize any potential leads in the case.

On Conley Road, near the place where the fatal crash took place, memorial flowers have been laid in remembrance of Brittany Ferguson. Her family continues to seek closure and justice for their beloved family member. Reflecting on the incident, Brittany’s father, Nick Ferguson, expressed his bewilderment at the lack of accountability for such a malicious act. “Sometimes I think it was a prank gone wrong, but I would think if that was the case, somebody would have come forth by now,” he shared with reporter Dave Faherty. “Seeing how that hasn’t happened, my only alternative is to think it’s a deliberate evil act.”

As the investigation progresses, it has been revealed that the tragedy occurred after Brittany and her sister, Mary, had attended a church service separately and were driving back home. The family had gathered at Nick’s residence to celebrate Mary’s upcoming wedding, where Brittany was meant to be the maid of honor. “They had a really good day and they went to church that night and they were coming home from church; and Mary made it and Brittany didn’t,” Nick recounted.

The SBI is collaborating closely with local law enforcement agencies, including sheriff deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, to uncover the identity of the perpetrator behind Brittany’s untimely death. According to state troopers, the rock that struck Brittany’s vehicle possibly originated from a passing car, resulting in her tragic demise and causing her vehicle to collide with a nearby home. Despite receiving leads in the case, authorities are still uncertain about the motive behind the fatal incident and are hopeful that the establishment of a tip line and reward will prompt individuals with pertinent information to come forward.

“I would hope someone would do the right thing and come forth and, you know, do what’s right,” stated Ferguson. The tip line for providing any relevant information is 828-764-9558. The family and authorities remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice for Brittany Ferguson, who was taken away far too soon in what has been described as an “evil act.”
