We are fostering a community of artists, musicians, filmmakers, and creators here.”He explained that the mural collective, guided by Fine Art Adjunct Steven Shelton, was an innovative idea where students contributed their talents to create a large-scale artwork that reflects their experiences in the community.“This mural truly captures the spirit of PC and exemplifies the creativity, skill, and diversity of our students. It’s a representation of who we are and what we stand for,” Lyons said.PC’s Department Head of Visual and Performing Arts Ray Aguirre said, “We couldn’t be more grateful for the new spaces; digital video, 2D and 3D labs. It’s such a shot in the arm for our programs and students. We’re also excited to announce that we will offer cybersecurity training, in partnership with the Small Business Academy, and a new game design program.”In the Digital Video Lab, the Los Angeles filmmaker Byron Scott, who worked on “Wonder Woman,” among other productions, shared valuable industry expertise with students. Former department head, Renegades Professor Emerita Michael Lujan, donated a kiln which provided a great boost to the program, especially during the pandemic.“The Fine Arts Program is a reminder to nurture the arts, and investing in the right places pays off long-term,” said Lyons.PC welcomed State Senator Melissa Hurtado, whose legislative director Tabatha Castillo presented our program with an official state Senate member resolution in recognition of our commitment to advancing art programs and benefitting our student community. Director of the Playhouse Merrianne Cole, and educators Jim Cotton and Dr. Michelle Galaz, attended the event.Interim President Monarrez expressed her appreciation for the contributors to the renovated spaces on campus, and students, faculty and the community at large.Writer Jamie A.
