The upcoming Bird Rock festival on La Jolla Boulevard is anticipated to elevate its success on Saturday, Oct. 25. Last year’s BirdStock Music Festival was improved with the temporary closure of La Jolla Boulevard between Midway Street and Camino de la Costa, promising a more expansive and safer event than ever before. This year’s festival is set to be even more significant with the addition of more stages, a beer and wine garden, and increased family-friendly activities.

The annual BirdStock Music Festival, brought to the community by the Bird Rock Community Council, offers a day of live music from local artists, shopping options, and various activities like pet adoption zones, pet costume contests, mini-golf, and face painting. Scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the festival occupies the 5500 to 5700 blocks of La Jolla Boulevard, promising an exciting lineup of events for all attendees.

Previously on hold for 12 years, the BirdStock Music Festival saw a much-anticipated revival in 2022, spearheaded by volunteer organizers Arianna Opsvig, Merisa Titlow, and Kelsey Martin. With an increase in interest and support from the community in recent years, the festival has continued to expand with the help of volunteers and donors, contributing to the Bird Rock Foundation and future BirdStock festivals simultaneously.

Preparations for this year’s festival began as early as February, with an overwhelming response from musicians vying for main stage time slots. To accommodate various acts, the festival will incorporate five stages featuring diverse performances, including one for electronic dance music to cater to a younger audience. The introduction of the EDM tent, with its vibrant décor and unique sound profiles, is designed to cater to the evolving musical tastes of the festival-goers.

As the BirdStock Music Festival continues to evolve, it aims to become more community-focused, supporting local musicians and embracing a wide range of musical genres. With headliners like reggae group Sandollar and surfadelic band Seapoodle gracing the main stage, attendees can look forward to a vibrant mix of musical performances. Returning artists like the Sandcasters and newcomers like Tsunami Sound Waves and Lissa Dee will add to the diverse lineup, promising an enriching experience for all festival-goers.

With its dedication to showcasing local talent, providing a range of activities, and ensuring a lively atmosphere, the BirdStock Music Festival is set to be a highlight of the La Jolla community. By continually improving and expanding its offerings, the festival organizers aim to create a memorable experience for all attendees and establish the event as a vibrant, community-driven celebration of music and art.
