Joseph Arthur and Peter Buck reunite for a new album titled “Arthur Buck 2”
After a long-awaited return, Joseph Arthur and Peter Buck have joined forces once again to release their second album together, Arthur Buck 2.
Their first collaboration in 2018 garnered praise for its unique blend of indie rock, folk, and alternative sounds, showcasing their raw energy and musical synergy. This time around, they enlisted Grammy Award-winning producer Jacknife Lee and a talented backing band consisting of Scott McCaughey, Linda Pitmon, and Gregg Foreman.
The album’s lead single, “Sleep With One Eye Open,” was the initial teaser for Arthur Buck 2, followed by the release of the radiant track “Fall In Love With Me”. The duo then dropped the official music video for “Where Did You Go?”, directed by Arthur and Amelie Chopinet, highlighting Buck’s distinctive guitar style and Arthur’s emotive vocals.
Their friendship dates back to 2000 when Joseph Arthur opened for R.E.M. on tour, quickly forming a musical bond. In 2016, a serendipitous encounter at the Todos Santos Music Festival reignited their connection, leading to impromptu jam sessions that birthed eight songs in three days. This creative burst culminated in their debut album, recorded in just seven hours and praised for its urgency and raw charm.
Arthur Buck’s debut record received critical acclaim for its guitar-driven pop sound, solidifying their status as a formidable musical duo. They embarked on a successful tour across the U.S. and Europe, showcasing their shared love for melody and experimentation.
Arthur Buck 2 continues this musical journey, maintaining the organic essence of their debut while exploring new sonic territories. The nine-track collection features introspective lyrics by Arthur intertwined with Buck’s layered instrumentals and jangly riffs.
Songs like “Where Did You Go?” and “Not So Modern Now” combine elements of nostalgia and innovation, with the latter showcasing Arthur’s dynamic guitar solo reminiscent of Funkadelic’s iconic style. The album’s spontaneous recording process captures the essence of both artists, highlighting Buck’s legacy in alternative rock and Arthur’s prolific career as a solo artist and visual creator.
Arthur Buck 2 encapsulates the essence of creative freedom and collaboration, offering a celebration of their enduring musical partnership. With tracks like “Sleep With One Eye Open” and “Not So Modern Now,” the album is available on all streaming platforms for fans to enjoy.
