Former LSU football star Kyren Lacy’s involvement in a deadly car crash has been under scrutiny as Louisiana state police released an 11-minute video showing the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision. The incident, which took place in December 2024, resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall.

According to authorities, Lacy was allegedly driving recklessly in a green Dodge Charger, speeding and swerving into oncoming traffic to pass other cars in a no-passing zone. In an attempt to avoid a collision with Lacy’s vehicle, another driver veered off and crashed head-on into another vehicle, resulting in Hall’s death. Lacy, however, fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or call emergency services. Following the crash, he turned himself in to the police and was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit and run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. Despite being released on bail, Lacy tragically took his own life days before a grand jury investigation was set to commence.

Following Lacy’s death, his defense attorney, Matthew Ory, presented evidence suggesting that Lacy was not at fault for the crash as he was too far behind the collision at the time. Ory argued that Lacy’s role in the incident was exaggerated, despite admitting that Lacy had overtaken multiple vehicles before the crash occurred. The Louisiana State Police countered these claims by releasing their own video evidence, which included a detailed timeline, crash report, eyewitness interviews, and surveillance footage. While the specific impact of Lacy’s vehicle could not be seen in the footage, the police maintained that Lacy’s reckless driving set off a chain of events leading to the fatal crash.

In response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the case, Louisiana’s Democratic Party has called for a thorough investigation into the accusations against Lacy. State Attorney General Liz Murrill confirmed that her office was reviewing all evidence related to the case and emphasized that every witness identified Lacy’s Dodge Charger as the vehicle that initiated the events leading to the crash. Despite conflicting accounts from Lacy’s defense attorney, the attorney general maintained that Lacy was responsible for the fatal collision.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly weighed in on the developments, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive review of all evidence before drawing conclusions. Kelly highlighted the importance of patience and thorough investigation in cases of this nature, refraining from making premature judgments based on limited information.

As the investigation into Kyren Lacy’s involvement in the deadly crash continues, questions remain about the sequence of events and the ultimate responsibility for the tragic incident. Both legal authorities and the football community are closely monitoring the case, awaiting more conclusive findings to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
