Former U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District and mother of ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, has passed away. Skies are expected to clear overnight with significantly colder temperatures forecasted to arrive early Wednesday morning. Prosecutors have identified two licensed foster-care workers as defendants in a case involving the death of a 9-year-old Detroit boy. It was revealed that the mother of the child accused the guardians of neglecting the boy. Additionally, a 23-year-old man passed away after being stabbed at a Kroger store in Southgate.

Louisiana state police have released video evidence regarding a fatal car accident in 2024 allegedly caused by former LSU football star Kyren Lacy, who died before a grand jury could examine the case. The video footage, shared in response to claims by Lacy’s defense attorney, Matthew Ory, indicated that Lacy did not cause the crash. However, Louisiana State Police maintained that Lacy was indeed responsible for the tragic incident and urged the public to consider all available facts. Louisiana’s attorney general is conducting a review of the case, emphasizing that eyewitnesses have pointed to Lacy as the driver who initiated the fatal collision.

In December 2024, Lacy was driving recklessly in a green Dodge Charger, dangerously overtaking vehicles in a no-passing zone which led to a fatal crash on a Louisiana highway. Lacy fled the scene of the accident, leading to his arrest on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit and run, and reckless driving. Following his death by suicide days before the grand jury hearing, his attorney presented evidence suggesting Lacy was not at fault, a claim refuted by Louisiana State Police with their own video evidence. Calls have emerged for further investigations into the case, with Louisiana’s Democratic Party urging the state attorney general to scrutinize the “wrongful accusations” against Lacy.

Despite requests for a thorough inquiry, the attorney general maintained that the evidence against Lacy was substantial, emphasizing witness accounts that implicated Lacy’s actions in causing the crash. In the football world, LSU coach Brian Kelley emphasized the importance of waiting for all information to emerge before making definitive statements in light of the ongoing investigation into Lacy’s involvement in the fatal accident.
