Hononegah HOPE Foundation hosts fundraiser and themed event “Touch of the Tropics”
The annual fundraiser at Hononegah Community High School was a vibrant event with a tropical theme, captured by the whimsical decor of flamingos, palm trees, and island-inspired motifs. The HOPE Foundation, established in 1997 under the leadership of then-Superintendent Ralph Marshall, has been an integral part of the school’s community, providing grants and support for various educational initiatives over the years.
The fundraiser, titled “A Touch of the Tropics,” took place at the Rockton American Center and transported attendees to a fun-filled evening full of colorful leis, Hawaiian shirts, and summer vibes. Volunteers greeted guests warmly, adding to the festive atmosphere. The festivities kicked off with a cocktail hour, followed by a buffet-style dinner courtesy of the Hoffman House. Among the highlights of the event were raffles, a 50/50 drawing, a silent auction, and music provided by the band Nauti Nauti, who entertained the crowd with their breezy musical selections.
Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to bid on a variety of items in the silent auction, including handmade jewelry, a wine tasting experience, Ice Hogs tickets, and themed gift baskets. A standout piece was a pair of chairs painted by HCHS student Elliott Towne to complement the tropical theme perfectly. Attendees could purchase souvenir cups adorned with flamingos and the words “Let’s Flamingo,” adding a fun touch to the event.
The band Nauti Nauti, known for their yacht rock and pop/rock repertoire, provided lively entertainment for the night. Sponsored by Cathy Bellich State Farm Insurance, the band’s music set a fun and upbeat tone for the fundraiser. Master of Ceremonies Andy Gannon ensured the event ran smoothly, maintaining an engaging atmosphere for guests.
Amidst the celebrations, the HOPE Foundation took a moment to acknowledge the memory of Steve Cofoid, a beloved member of the community who recently passed away. Foundation President Pat Hoey expressed gratitude for the continued support from the community, highlighting the importance of fundraising efforts in providing resources and opportunities for students and staff at Hononegah Community High School.
The evening also featured a ring raffle, showcasing a custom-designed ring donated by the Gem Shop & Diamond Source. The proceeds from the raffle contribute to a scholarship in memory of Jan Modersohn, benefiting youth in the community. This scholarship, which has grown from its initial amount, reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives and student success.
As the event drew to a close, the HOPE Foundation recognized the dedicated individuals serving on the board, along with community members who have been instrumental in supporting the foundation’s mission. The ongoing efforts of the foundation continue to pave the way for future educational opportunities and community engagement at Hononegah Community High School.
In conclusion, the “Touch of the Tropics” fundraiser hosted by the HOPE Foundation was a memorable and engaging event that brought together members of the community to support education and student success. The foundation’s commitment to providing resources, grants, and scholarships underscores its vital role in fostering a vibrant and enriching educational environment at the school.
