Peter Criss, Kiss Drummer, reveals his first solo album in over a decade
Peter Criss recently revealed exciting news to fans of the rock band Kiss and classic rock enthusiasts alike. After nearly 20 years, the original Kiss drummer is set to release a new solo album in the fall of this year. This upcoming album will mark his second solo release, following his debut album “One for All” released back in 2007.
Expressing his enthusiasm about his new project, Peter Criss shared that the new album will feature an array of talented collaborators. Some of the notable musicians joining him on this album include Michael McLaughlin, John 5 handling lead and rhythm guitar duties, Billy Sheehan on bass, Piggy D (Matt Montgomery) contributing to bass, and the renowned Paul Shaffer on B3 and piano. Criss himself will be showcasing his vocal skills while also playing drums and percussion. The album also features fantastic backup singers, including Dennis and Sharron Collins and Cathryn Manning from the Cat 5 Band.
Not only is Peter Criss the co-founder of Kiss, but he is also famously known for co-writing and singing the band’s 1976 hit “Beth.” Despite his significant role in Kiss’s history, Criss experienced tensions with band members, leading to his departure in 1982. Following his exit from Kiss, Criss ventured into a solo career, releasing three solo records during the 80s and 90s. After a temporary return to Kiss for their 1996 reunion tour, conflicts resurfaced, prompting his departure once again in 2004. Although Kiss did not perform during their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2014, Criss took the stage with the band for the final time.
While there were hopes of a reunion with Kiss at the conclusion of their farewell tour in December 2023, those plans never materialized. Gene Simmons expressed regret over the absence of Peter Criss and Ace Frehley in the band’s closing chapters, acknowledging their vital roles in Kiss’s early years as a “four-wheel-drive vehicle.” However, with Criss’s upcoming album on the horizon, fans speculate the potential for more solo shows following a final concert in 2017.
The specifics of the new album, such as its title and precise release date, remain undisclosed for now. Fans eagerly anticipate the forthcoming fall release to experience the culmination of Peter Criss’s musical endeavors. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting release and witness the timeless legacy of the Catman himself in the world of rock music.
