Researchers Jia Y. Chong and R. Chris Fraley conducted a survey involving 328 adults who had been in relationships lasting over two years. On average, the participants had been separated from their partners for approximately five years. The study revealed that it takes around 4.18 years to reach the midway point of dissolving the emotional connection with an ex. Interestingly, some individuals continued to maintain a stronger emotional bond with their ex-partner compared to that with a stranger even many years post-breakup.
