The Belfast-based psychedelic art-rock group, Junk Drawer, has recently unveiled their latest single called ‘Loughgall Circus,” accompanied by a visually striking video that perfectly complements the surreal aesthetic of the track. This new release is a sneak peek into their upcoming second album titled ‘Days of Heaven,’ which is scheduled to hit the shelves on June 6th through Pizza Pizza Records, known for representing other notable acts like Just Mustard. In anticipation of the album release, Junk Drawer will be embarking on a co-headline tour alongside the likes of Cola from Montreal and the Irish feminist punk band, M(h)aol, during the months of May and June at various venues across different cities.

Junk Drawer’s musical style draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, encompassing the breezy vibes of 1960s West Coast LA, the ethereal soundscapes of 1980s New Zealand, and the experimental realms explored by legendary artists such as Zappa and Beefheart. Their sound is a fusion of eccentric, alternative, and post-punk elements, echoing the influences of bands like Fat White Family, The Fall, Wire, Meat Puppets, Cleaners From Venus, and Richard Dawson, among others.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Junk Drawer’s music is their ability to seamlessly traverse across various genres and sounds. This versatility is notably evident in the tracklist of their forthcoming album, ‘Days of Heaven,’ which demonstrates a juxtaposition of bright, upbeat ‘pop’ tunes in the first half with darker, heavier compositions in the latter part. The album’s structure creates a dynamic contrast that showcases the band’s multifaceted musical range.

At the heart of it all lies ‘Loughgall Circus,’ the standout track that encapsulates the essence of Junk Drawer’s sonic vision. Featuring an ominous drumbeat and an organ drone that set a foreboding tone, the song’s off-kilter, dramatically-panned guitars add an element of disorientation, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that delves into deeper themes and emotions.

To commemorate the release of ‘Loughgall Circus’ and build excitement for their upcoming album launch, Junk Drawer will be hitting the road for an extensive series of live performances alongside Cola and M(h)aol. The tour kicks off on May 28th at The Black Box in Belfast and includes dates in cities such as Derry, Galway, Limerick, Cork, and Dublin, among others. Additionally, fans can catch Junk Drawer at various festivals and events later in the year, including appearances at Under The Drum Festival, The Windmill in London, and Left of the Dial in Rotterdam.

As Junk Drawer continues to captivate audiences with their innovative sound and captivating performances, ‘Days of Heaven’ promises to be a musical journey unlike any other, showcasing the band’s evolving creativity and artistic prowess. With ‘Loughgall Circus’ setting the stage for what’s to come, fans can expect to be taken on a transcendent musical adventure that transcends boundaries and pushes the limits of conventional rock music.
