Punk rock is making a resurgence on the charts with Toronto band PUP’s latest album, “Who Will Look After The Dogs?” debuting at No. 72 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. This marks the fourth consecutive album from the band to land on the chart, following the success of their previous album, “The Dream Is Over,” which reached No. 48 in 2016. While their latest album may not have reached higher peaks on the chart, PUP is gaining momentum after a recent tour opening for Sum 41 on their farewell tour and current tour in Europe. The band is also planning a citywide summer tour in Toronto called the Mega-City Madness Tour, with performances at six venues in their hometown.

The album “Who Will Look After The Dogs?” stays true to PUP’s signature style of being fun and self-deprecating, reflecting the band’s personal growth and major life changes. Members of the band have experienced milestones such as getting married, having children, expanding home studios, and dealing with the end of long-term relationships. This personal evolution is evident in the music, adding depth and maturity to their punk rock sound.

In addition to PUP’s new album, Pink Floyd makes a significant impact on the chart with their live performance album, “Pink Floyd At Pompeii: MCMLXXII,” landing at No. 45. This album serves as a soundtrack for the band’s 1972 concert film, “Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii,” which was recently remastered and re-released in theaters in 4K. It is the only other debut on the May 17 chart, showcasing the enduring popularity and influence of legendary bands like Pink Floyd.

Canadian artists continue to dominate the top 10 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, with The Weeknd’s greatest hits album, “The Highlights,” maintaining the No. 1 spot. Other Canadian artists like Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR and Tate McRae also hold strong positions in the top 10, showing the diverse and thriving music scene in Canada. The consistency and success of Canadian artists on the charts highlight the country’s rich musical heritage and ongoing contributions to the global music industry.

Overall, the Billboard Canadian Albums chart continues to showcase a mix of new and classic music, featuring both emerging artists like PUP and established acts like Pink Floyd. The diversity and quality of music on the chart reflect the dynamic nature of the Canadian music scene, offering something for every music lover to enjoy. Whether it’s punk rock from Toronto or iconic rock from Britain, the chart highlights the talent and creativity of musicians worldwide.
