Michigan Rattlers, a band hailing from Petoskey, will be concluding an extensive North American tour with a highly anticipated show at Saint Andrew’s Hall in Detroit this Friday. The group, well-known for their unique blend of roots rock and Americana, took a departure from their usual sound on their latest album released last year, exploring elements of indie pop and classic rock.

When Michigan Rattlers set out to create their latest album, they decided to push the boundaries and experiment with new musical styles. The four-piece band, initially gaining recognition as one of Michigan’s most promising new acts, received critical acclaim for their poignant songwriting and acoustic sound that drew inspiration from heartland rock and the alternative country scene of the 90s.

For their album “Waving from a Sea,” which dropped in August, lead vocalist Graham Young and his bandmates sought to evolve their sound with the assistance of Dominic Davis, a bassist with roots in the Lansing-based group Steppin’ In It and a musician closely associated with Jack White. Impressed by Davis’s production work on an album by the Michigan outfit Greensky Bluegrass, Michigan Rattlers enlisted his expertise to infuse their music with influences from artists like the War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, and the 1975.

The outcome was an album that stayed true to their foundational roots while embracing new indie-pop nuances and classic rock undertones, all while preserving Young’s emotionally charged songwriting at its core. Following an extensive three-month journey traversing North America, where their dynamic live performances garnered recognition, The Michigan Rattlers are gearing up to wrap up their tour with a pivotal show at Saint Andrew’s Hall, marking their most significant Detroit performance to date.

In an interview with the Free Press, Graham Young shared insights on the band’s latest album, their on-stage presence, and their progress as a musical collective. When asked about their tour experiences, Young expressed enthusiasm about the positive journey they’ve had thus far, relishing the opportunity to showcase their fresh material to audiences across various locations. Their new tracks have breathed new life into their performances, injecting a renewed sense of energy and excitement into their shows.

The band’s evolution and willingness to explore new musical territories have been evident throughout their tour, captivating audiences with their adventurous spirit and genre-defying approach. As they gear up for their grand finale at Saint Andrew’s Hall, The Michigan Rattlers continue to push boundaries, redefine their sound, and solidify their reputation as trailblazers in the roots rock and Americana music scene. Fans can anticipate a memorable and electrifying performance that encapsulates the band’s growth and unwavering passion for crafting music that resonates deeply with listeners.
