Chris Brown is currently embroiled in a lawsuit filed by a former superfan, Angela Reliford, who is seeking $30 million in damages. The lawsuit accuses Brown of sharing a doctored Instagram video that portrays Reliford as a violent stalker. The video, reposted in July 2024, allegedly used a mugshot from a prior arrest to falsely depict her as a menacing lawbreaker.

The legal battle, initiated in Nevada, includes a range of accusations such as defamation, slander, libel, copyright infringement, privacy invasion, emotional distress, and negligence. Reliford claims that the online abuse and workplace gossip stemming from the video caused her significant suffering, including untrue remarks about her gender identity.

In addition to seeking monetary damages, Reliford is also demanding a public apology from Brown. The lawsuit comes on the heels of Brown’s recent legal trouble in Manchester, where he was involved in a physical altercation at a local club, leading to charges of grievous bodily harm and his detainment in the UK.

Reliford, an Atlanta-based entrepreneur, has faced cyberbullying and physical assault as a result of the video shared by Brown. She alleges that the mugshot featured in the video was from a false arrest for domestic violence in 2017. The relentless harassment and threats she received prompted her to leave her hometown.

Despite once managing an Instagram fan page dedicated to Brown, Reliford has now taken legal action against the artist she once admired. She recounts meeting Brown multiple times and describes an incident where he specifically acknowledged her during a performance in 2024.

Following an uncomfortable experience at a “meet and greet” event, Reliford posted a public video expressing her distress. She claims that Brown shared an altered version of this video, leading to widespread damage to her reputation. Reliford asserts that she wants to stand up for individuals who are unfairly targeted and mistreated, emphasizing the importance of speaking out against injustice.

During a recent hearing, the judge granted Reliford additional time to serve Brown with legal documents. If successful, this could lead to further legal proceedings and potential repercussions for Brown. The case, confirmed by the court, remains active, with no comment yet from Brown, Sony Music, or RCA Records.
