Bury Tomorrow has unveiled their latest emotionally raw album, Will You Haunt Me With That Same Patience, marking a significant moment in the band’s evolving sound. With rhythm guitarist Ed Hartwell and keyboardist/vocalist Tom Prendergast joining the lineup, this record delves into uncharted emotional territories for the band. Metal Insider recently caught up with Ed Hartwell to discuss the intricate process behind crafting this album.

The recording journey for Will You Haunt Me With That Same Patience led the band to work with producer Carl Bown for the first time. Hartwell shares that the recording sessions were challenging due to the band’s hectic schedules, resulting in a disjointed process spread across various sessions. The recording began in November 2023 with tracks like Villain Arc and Let Go, followed by the completion of the album during the summer of 2024. Despite the logistical hurdles, the band found solace in spending time together at Carl’s studio, fostering a new perspective on their musical approach.

When asked about the challenges in songwriting, Hartwell highlights Yokai as a particularly demanding track that required structural adjustments to find its direction. Similarly, Let Go underwent multiple iterations of choruses before reaching its final form. The process of experimenting with different sounds and genres pushed the band to expand their sonic boundaries, resulting in a more nuanced and dynamic album compared to their previous release, The Seventh Sun.

The stylistic choices in “Let Go” incorporating hip-hop elements were not a deliberate decision but rather a natural evolution of the song’s origins as an electronic piece. The band’s collaborative approach to songwriting often leads to unexpected turns, as seen in tracks like Wasteland, where electronic demos morphed into heavy grooves, defying initial expectations. The significance of the album’s title within the chorus of Silence Isn’t Helping Us underscores the band’s penchant for hidden motifs and unconventional songwriting techniques.

Looking ahead, Bury Tomorrow’s immediate future involves touring in the USA and Europe to support the album release. Despite the busy schedule, the band is already cultivating new material, indicating a continuous creative process within the group. Hartwell expresses gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support and encourages listeners to delve into the depths of Will You Haunt Me With That Same Patience.

As Bury Tomorrow embarks on this new chapter with their latest album, the band’s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring diverse sounds serves as a testament to their evolving artistry and unwavering passion for music.
