Western Massachusetts-based band Editrix has recently unveiled the details of their upcoming third album, “The Big E,” set for release on July 25 through Joyful Noise Recordings. Along with this announcement comes the debut of the title track, which sets the tone for the album with its jittery avant-rock sound filled with controlled chaos.

The track, “The Big E,” showcases the incredible musicianship of the trio, led by guitarist and vocalist Wendy Eisenberg, with bassist Steve Cameron and drummer Josh Daniel providing a complex and intricate backdrop. The song, named after its recurring E chords, features a precise and frenetic energy. Eisenberg, the primary lyricist, delves into the theme of feeling isolated and alienated within music scenes and compares it to an extraterrestrial experience. She elaborates on this, stating, “This song is about alien visitors – hoping they’re friendly and curious like the best of us humans. It’s also about aging, which feels like you’re an alien to certain generations, including your younger selves, and the impossibility of being understood.”

The band’s previous album, “Editrix II: Editrix Goes To Hell,” was followed by a more geographically dispersed creative process for “The Big E.” While Eisenberg and Cameron are now situated in New York City and Daniel remains in Massachusetts, they adopted a more concentrated approach to songwriting, opting for in-person sessions over remote collaborations. This shift led to highly productive gatherings where entire songs would come together effortlessly.

Recorded in just four days with esteemed tech-death producer Colin Marston (known for his work with Krallice and Behold… The Arctopus), “The Big E” captures the band’s spontaneity while showcasing a groove-centric direction different from their previous works. Eisenberg admits to not always grasping the intricate rhythms at play, but the result is a captivating and bewildering progression that propels Editrix closer to the core of the avant-rock genre.

With the announcement of the album, fans can now pre-order “The Big E” and prepare to embark on a sonic journey filled with innovative soundscapes and thought-provoking lyricism. Overall, Editrix’s latest offering promises to be a compelling and immersive listening experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
