Sam Fender recently concluded a triumphant three-night run in his hometown of Newcastle at St. James’ Park and it was nothing short of spectacular. The atmosphere was electric, the emotions were high, and there were a few unexpected guests who graced the stage, much to the delight of the audience.

During the final night of the completely sold-out homecoming shows on June 15, Sam Fender performed some of his biggest hits like ‘The Borders’, ‘Howdon Aldi Death Queue’, and ‘Tyrants’ early on in the set. However, it was during ‘Rein Me In’ that things took an exciting turn. Olivia Dean, who has been touring with Fender, joined him onstage for a poignant duet that captivated the audience. The chemistry between the two was palpable, making it a standout moment in the show.

Adding to the surprise factor, CMAT, another support act known for her eclectic vibe, joined Fender during the encore for a spirited rendition of ‘Something Heavy’. Alongside Fender’s brother and a fiddle player, the stage was filled with infectious energy and a sense of camaraderie that left a lasting impact on the audience.

The night also featured a cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’, with Fender’s former guitar teacher making a special appearance. And just when you thought the emotions couldn’t run any deeper, the Easington Colliery Brass Band took to the stage for ‘Remember My Name’, a touching tribute to Fender’s roots.

Fender has been delivering some of the most emotionally-charged performances of the summer, and the Newcastle shows were no exception. They felt less like traditional concerts and more like collective experiences where music served as a form of therapy. If you missed out on these shows, there’s still a chance to catch Fender in Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast, and Electric Picnic later this summer. But be warned, finding another night filled with as much heart and musical talent may prove to be a challenge.

Tickets are still available for upcoming shows, so grab them while you can. Sam Fender’s ability to connect with his audience on a deep, emotional level through his music is unmatched, making his live performances a must-see for music lovers.
