New video of Air India flight disaster reveals crash cause
New groundbreaking footage recently released sheds light on the tragic Air India crash that claimed the lives of over 270 people. According to aviation expert Steve Schreiber, the video confirms that the Boeing 787 lost power immediately after takeoff, resulting in a dual engine failure. Initially, it was suspected that a simple error in the cockpit may have caused the crash, but analysis of the high-definition clip revealed a protrusion beneath the aircraft, signaling the deployment of the Ram Access Turbine (RAT), a system designed to provide electrical and hydraulic pressure in emergency situations.
Further examination of the video showed the plane sinking through the sky before erupting into a fireball upon impact. Capt. Steve emphasized that the distinct sound of the RAT deploying, resembling that of a single-propeller plane, could be heard in the footage. He identified three possible causes for the RAT’s activation on a 787: a massive electrical failure, a massive hydraulic failure, or a dual engine failure. Based on the evidence provided, he concluded that it was likely a dual engine failure that led to the tragic crash.
The investigation into the Air India crash also revealed that the second black box containing crucial cockpit voice recordings had been recovered. This important piece of evidence is expected to shed light on the moments leading up to the disaster, including pilot conversations, radio transmissions, warning alarms, and ambient sounds from the cockpit. Capt. Sumeet Sabharwal, the lead pilot of the doomed flight, made a distress call to air traffic control as the plane rapidly descended, stating, “‘Thrust not achieved […] falling […] Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!”.
Despite the heartbreaking loss of life, Capt. Sabharwal’s quick thinking and expert piloting skills were credited with preventing even greater casualties. By diverting the jet at the last moment, he was able to steer the plane away from a densely populated area, ultimately crashing into a patch of grassland. This heroic maneuver spared the lives of all 18 families residing in a nearby apartment building under the flight path.
In the aftermath of the crash, the devastating impact of the tragedy was felt by the families of the victims, as well as the local community. The aircraft obliterated a disused military building, resulting in numerous casualties among students and staff who were inside the college’s hostel at the time of the crash. The fire that ensued from the impact incinerated the jet’s 90 tons of aviation fuel, creating a catastrophic scene in which many lives were lost.
As the investigation into the Air India crash continues, experts and officials are working tirelessly to uncover the underlying causes of the tragedy. Through the analysis of recovered black box data, cockpit voice recordings, and newly released video footage, a clearer picture of the events leading up to the disaster is emerging. The bravery and professionalism displayed by Capt. Sabharwal in the face of such a harrowing situation serve as a testament to the unwavering dedication and heroism of those in the aviation industry.
