When we delved into the music scene of Rome for our Sense of Place series, one band immediately captured our attention – Weird Bloom. The band’s unique sound seems to transport listeners back to the 1970s, evoking a psychedelic and catchy vibe reminiscent of T. rex. Their music, distinct from what one might expect from an Italian rock band, showcases a fusion of retro influences that set them apart. Frontman Luca Di Cataldo sits down with us to shed light on the band’s journey, including the creation of their latest album, ‘Stargate,’ in collaboration with the former drummer of punk band Germ.

During our conversation, Luca talks about the band’s efforts to cultivate an indie rock community within Rome, also known as the ‘Eternal City.’ This endeavor reflects their commitment to creating an inclusive space for artists to thrive, contributing to the vibrant musical landscape of Rome. A live performance by Weird Bloom at Alcazar Live in Rome’s Trastevere district further demonstrates their captivating sound and charismatic presence, engaging the audience in an unforgettable experience.

The production and editing of this episode of World Cafe were expertly overseen by Kimberly Junod, with Miguel Perez instrumental in crafting the web story.
