Montreal’s eclectic music group, the Besnard Lakes, have shared details about their upcoming seventh studio album and set the stage with their latest single, “In Hollywood.”

The Besnard Lakes Are the Ghost Nation is set to be released on October 10 via Full Time Hobby. Following the success of their 2021 album, The Besnard Lakes Are the Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warnings, the band decided to record their new album in the serene location of Lost River Studios deep in the Laurentian forest.

Co-singer Jace Lasek explained the significance behind the album’s title, stating, “I feel like it’s a very formidable title, symbolic of the times. It’s talking about the death of nations, the threat of Canada being the 51st state. There is the desire to be left alone, to let community be community, all of those things that feel like they might be under siege; that’s what the ghost nation is.”

Their lead single, “In Hollywood,” showcases a unique musical approach for the band. Co-singer Olga Goreas described the track as a melody that had lingered in Jace’s mind for years, finally coming to fruition in this album. Written in a dropped D tuning, the song offers a fresh perspective on the Besnard Lakes’ sound, featuring creative synth work by Sheenah Ko and a captivating guitar solo by Gabriel Lambert. Jace’s vocals shine through, leading listeners on an intriguing lyrical journey.
