Soulfly debuts new song “Favela Dystopia” in a live performance video

SOULFLY recently introduced a new song called “Favela Dystopia” during their current run in Europe. The track premiered on July 8 at Maimunarnika in Sofia, Bulgaria, and was performed again on July 10 at Dorćol Platz in Belgrade, Serbia.

Fans eager to hear the fresh material can catch a glimpse of the band’s live performance in Belgrade through fan-shot videos circulating online. The new song is anticipated to be part of SOULFLY’s upcoming album following their release of “Totem” in 2022.

Earlier this year, Chase Bryant from WARBRINGER joined SOULFLY to handle bass duties for their European summer tour. The tour kicked off on June 7 at the South Of Heaven festival in Maastricht, Netherlands, and has taken the band to various festivals and venues across Europe.

Max Cavalera, the frontman of SOULFLY, revealed details about the progress on their forthcoming album in a recent interview. He expressed satisfaction with the recordings and mentioned the upcoming mixing process, as well as the selection of songs for streaming platforms like Spotify.

Discussing the musical direction of the new material, Cavalera mentioned that the new record resonates with the adventurous spirit of their debut album, “Soulfly,” from 1998. Although the sound is different, with heavier grooves and more intricacy, he noted that the spirit and attitude are similar to their initial release. Cavalera expressed delight in the challenge of drawing inspiration from their first album for their thirteenth record, emphasizing the exciting process of revisiting the mindset that led to the creation of the debut album.

Cavalera also highlighted the significance of this return to the roots of SOULFLY’s music. While noting that subsequent albums explored various styles, incorporating thrash elements in albums like “Dark Ages,” “Omen,” and “Conquer,” he emphasized the importance of maintaining the original spirit that fans fell in love with.
