During a recent visit to Nantwich, MP Connor Naismith and Crime Commissioner Dan Price engaged in discussions with local police officers about the prevalent issues of anti-social behavior in the town. The visit included a walk around Nantwich with Sgt Matt Stonier, where they also visited the Nantwich Youth and Community Centre.

Mr. Price’s SWAP Summer Support Fund contributed to the youth center, allowing them to organize day trips and a youth rock festival. The fund is part of the government’s Safer Streets Summer Initiative, which is being implemented in 500 town centers across the UK, including Crewe and Nantwich.

At the youth center, Naismith and Price met with outreach workers who assist in supporting and integrating young people in the area. Naismith emphasized the importance of addressing anti-social behavior, stating that it is a common issue in Cheshire and requires a hands-on approach from both local police forces and the national government.

He highlighted the significance of redirecting individuals, especially young people, away from criminal activities and towards personal and social development opportunities. Naismith stressed the importance of community-based support, citing that vulnerable individuals respond best to those they trust. Initiatives like the Safer Streets Summer Initiative and the SWAP Fund play a crucial role in strengthening the relationships between the police, young people, and local community organizations.

The Crime and Policing Bill introduced by the government includes measures to empower officers in addressing anti-social behavior and has led to the recruitment of 13,000 new officers. Naismith commended the efforts of the local police and the government in tackling the root causes of anti-social behavior and emphasized the need for collaborative community-driven solutions.

The visit to Nantwich underscored the importance of proactive measures in addressing anti-social behavior and fostering positive relationships within the community. By supporting programs that provide opportunities for personal development and social engagement, stakeholders aim to create a safer and more inclusive environment for all residents of Nantwich and beyond.
