The release of the music video for the single “Stonehenge” gives fans a first look at the upcoming sequel to the iconic rock mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap. Bleecker Street recently unveiled the trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues at ComicCon, with Rob Reiner returning as director and the original Spinal Tap members, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer, reprising their roles. The film, also written by the cast, is set for release on September 12, with Rob Reiner, Michele Reiner, and Matthew George as producers.

One of the exciting aspects of the new film is the array of music world figures making cameo appearances, including Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and Questlove. Elton John features as a guest artist on the band’s single “Stonehenge,” part of the thirteen-track album soundtrack that also includes nine new songs and four “reinvented” favorites, featuring guests like Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood.

In the 40+ years since Marty Di Bergi documented the band, significant changes have occurred: David St. Hubbins joined a mariachi band, Derek Smalls ventured into cryptocurrency, and Nigel Tufnel dabbles in cheese-making, only returning to music for pub gigs. However, circumstances lead to one final concert, requiring yet another drummer to join the band.

The official synopsis for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues reads, “Forty-one years after This Is Spinal Tap, estranged bandmates David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls reunite for a final concert. Documentarian Marty Di Bergi returns to capture these music legends grappling with mortality and the hope that their 12th drummer won’t join them in The Great Beyond. With the involvement of Paul McCartney and Elton John, Spinal Tap aims to solidify their place in rock ‘n’ roll history by confronting their turbulent past.

The film promises to be a nostalgic journey for fans of the original mockumentary and music aficionados alike, with a blend of comedy, music, and guest appearances from music legends adding to the anticipation for its release. Stay tuned for September 12 for the awaited return of Spinal Tap in their final concert performance.
