Jack Ladder Reveals Upcoming Album ‘Separation Rock’, Drops Single and Tour Dates
Jack Ladder is gearing up for the release of his eighth album, entitled Separation Rock. Following his 2023 release, Tall Pop Syndrome, this new album is scheduled to drop on Friday, October 10th under Worse Records. This release marks Ladder’s debut on the independent label, which is owned and operated by his longtime friend and Dreamlanders bandmate, Kirin J Callinan. To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Ladder has shared a new single called ‘Everything Belongs 2 U’ along with two intimate launch dates in November.
The inspiration behind the title of the new single, ‘Everything Belongs 2 U’, is a nod to Sinead O’Connor’s famous 1990 hit, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’. This single comes after the previous releases of ‘Missing’, a duet with Sharon Van Etten, in June, and ‘I Want The 1 (That I Can’t Have)’, which dropped last month. Notably, Alex Cameron, a close collaborator and friend of Ladder’s, lent his vocals for this track. Ladder revealed in a press statement that ‘Everything Belongs 2 U’ was the first song he wrote for the album and was also the last one completed.
Sharing the process behind ‘Everything Belongs 2 U’, Ladder mentioned becoming fixated on Elton John’s ‘Skyline Pigeon’ after watching The Favourite during a flight home from a U.S. tour. He curated a playlist of heart-wrenching piano ballads featuring other artists like Neil Sedaka, John Cale, and Pete Dello. This new single represents his contribution to that emotionally charged playlist. A music video for ‘Everything Belongs 2 U’, directed by Stephanie Jane Day, is also available for viewing online.
The album Separation Rock was recorded at Valentine Studios in North Hollywood, California. Ladder teamed up with producer Zach Dawes, known for his work with indie rock bands like Mini Mansions and The Last Shadow Puppets. Dawes not only produced the album but also played bass on the record. Joining them in the studio were session drummer Jay Bellerose, keyboardist Tyler Parkford, and other notable musicians. Ladder has also lined up a special solo performance at The Midnight Special in Sydney on August 21st, with two sets starting from 7pm. Also, two full-band shows are scheduled in November to officially launch the album at The Wesley Anne in Melbourne on November 7th and The Vanguard in Sydney on November 14th. Tickets are currently on sale for both shows.
Fans eagerly awaiting Separation Rock can pre-save the album digitally and pre-order physical copies. With the release date just around the corner, music lovers can delve into Ladder’s introspective and evocative soundscapes with this highly anticipated album.
