Colorado gym trainer convicted of sexually assaulting teenage athletes

A former gym trainer in Colorado has been convicted of sexually assaulting teenage athletes. Aaron Thomas Carrado, 51, who worked at the “Strength in Christ” gym in Parker, was found guilty after his ex-wife contacted authorities concerning disturbing notes and social media messages sent to the teens. The investigation revealed that Carrado had fled to Montana, where he was apprehended.

The victims, two of the athletes he had coached, testified against him, detailing instances of repeated sexual assaults that took place between 2019 and 2022. Reports indicated that the assaults occurred not only at the gym but also in other locations. One victim was 15 years old at the time, while the other was 16 years old. Carrado was charged with 12 counts, including six counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as part of a pattern of abuse.

“This defendant was supposed to be responsible for training Olympic-level high school athletes, but instead, he abused that trust and violated them,” remarked Chief Deputy District Attorney Danielle Jaramillo. She also praised the survivors for their bravery, noting that their actions had demonstrated that no title, position, or authority could protect a predator from facing justice.

Carrado is scheduled for sentencing on November 13, facing a penalty ranging from eight years to life in prison. The court’s decision marks the end of a troubling period for the victimized athletes, who were taken advantage of by the very person entrusted with their development and well-being.
