Backseat Mafia recently featured the new music video release of “Swords and Knives” by The Maggie Pills, a song from their upcoming album Hearts Enduring Lingering Loss. The album, set to release on August 22 through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, continues the band’s unique post-punk sound, combining tension and release in a raw and emotional way.

The Maggie Pills, formed in Melbourne in 2019 by frontwoman Delfi Sorondo from Argentina and drummer Mario Perez from Venezuela, have established themselves as a band that delves into themes of love, grief, and fleeting beauty. Produced by Perez and Brad Jackson, their new record promises to deliver immediate and introspective music that resonates with listeners.

“Swords and Knives” is a poignant reflection on the complexity of love – from its initial arrival to its tumultuous collapse. The video for the song, filmed on a single handycam with changing light, tells a dark tale of a vampire girl who knows her inevitable fate. Directed by Perez and edited by Sam Mapplebeck, the video mirrors the band’s fascination with loss, inevitability, and the transient nature of beauty.

To celebrate the album launch, The Maggie Pills will be performing at The Night Cat and Brunswick Ballroom, adding to their impressive list of venues they have graced in Melbourne’s underground music scene. Having shared lineups with notable acts like Black Lips, Shihad, and Battlesnake, the band has quickly made a mark in the local music scene.

The Blackhearts website mentions The Maggie Pills’ upcoming tour dates including a show in Melbourne at The Night Cat on October 17 and at The Brunswick Ballroom on November 22. Tickets for these shows are available for purchase.

The release of The Maggie Pills’ new album and the video for “Swords and Knives” serve as a testament to their growing presence in the music industry and their ability to craft emotionally charged songs that resonate with audiences.
