Sammy Hagar to release new live album ‘The Residency’
Sammy Hagar has exciting news for his fans as he gears up for the release of his latest live album, “The Residency,” featuring performances by his Best of Both Worlds band. The album is set to hit the shelves on October 10, 2025, showcasing a collection of Hagar’s greatest hits spanning his illustrious career. From beloved Van Halen classics to tracks from his solo endeavors like “There’s Only One Way to Rock” and “Eagles Fly,” this album promises to be a treat for long-time fans and newcomers alike.
One of the notable tracks from the upcoming release is a live rendition of the Van Halen favorite, “Summer Nights.” Hagar shared some insight into the inspiration behind the song, revealing, “Eddie played me that guitar riff and I just started singing ‘summer nights and my radio,’ and the rest of the lyrics just came out like a river of consciousness. I don’t think there’s a better theme song for a beautiful summer night, so it had to be the first track this summer from the live album.”
Recorded during Hagar’s previous tour, the performances featured in “The Residency” were held at Dolby Live at Park MGM and were the perfect culmination of Hagar’s latest musical journey alongside his talented bandmates, including former Van Halen member, Michael Anthony, and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani – a staple in Hagar’s musical ventures since their time together in the supergroup, Chickenfoot.
In addition to fan-favorite hits, the album also includes a special track harkening back to Hagar’s early days with his first band, Montrose. “Rock Candy,” originally from their debut album and Hagar’s initial foray into the music scene, stood out to producer Ted Templeman during the early days of Van Halen and has since become a timeless classic in Hagar’s repertoire.
Amidst the buzz surrounding the album release, Hagar also made headlines with his candid revelation about his future touring plans. With the debut of his new song, “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight,” the rock icon hinted at stepping away from traditional multi-city tours in favor of exploring new musical avenues. His residency in Las Vegas is seen as a stepping stone for future projects, signaling a potential shift in his performance endeavors.
However, Hagar assures fans that he isn’t bidding farewell to live performances altogether. While he may be scaling back on extensive tours, he remains open to one-off shows and special appearances. Recently, he graced the stage in Birmingham for the “Back to the Beginning” concerts honoring Black Sabbath, where he paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with a heartfelt rendition of “Flying High Again.”
As fans eagerly await the release of “The Residency” and anticipate Hagar’s future musical endeavors, one thing is certain – the rock legend continues to captivate audiences with his timeless hits and unwavering passion for music.
