Sally Traffic reveals one thing she would never do while driving

If you are a long-time listener of Radio 2, you are likely familiar with Sally Boazman, known as Sally Traffic, providing valuable travel advice. Sally has been involved in delivering information on road closures, busy junctions, and live traffic updates from listeners since 1998. Over the years, she has collaborated with radio icons such as the late Johnie Walker and Steve Wright. Presently, after scaling back her hours, she offers traffic updates on Saturday shows with Dermot O’Leary, Rylan Clark, and Romesh Ranganathan.

Before Radio 2 in the Park at Hylands Park in Chelmsford from 5-7 September, we had a chat with Sally, who is 67 years old. She shared her top travel tips, favorite service station, and insights into her leisurely retirement approach.

Sally highlights that one crucial piece of advice is not to travel on a Friday afternoon, especially after 3 pm. Many individuals continue to make the mistake of hitting the road at that time. Sally recalls a recent visitor who traveled to see her on a Friday afternoon, enduring a five-hour journey. She expressed her bewilderment, asking why they chose to travel at such a peak traffic period.

According to Sally, Friday afternoons post-3 pm are the absolute worst for traveling. She advises avoiding this time slot at all costs. If possible, opt to travel later in the evening for shorter trips or early Saturday morning when the roads are less congested. On the contrary, Sally suggests that Monday mornings are favorable for traveling, as the roads tend to be clearer.

Additionally, Sally reveals that her preferred service station is one along the M40. She jokes that if given the chance, she would live on the M40, speaking to her fondness for the area and the ease of travel it provides. This touches on Sally’s deep appreciation for the convenience and amenities that service stations offer during long journeys.

As she eases into retirement, Sally has been gradually reducing her workload and commitments while still maintaining her presence on Radio 2 shows.
