Terry Jordan, Wisbech Town Council clerk, talks about importance of market traders and Christmas
During a recent Wisbech Town Council meeting, Town Clerk Terry Jordan addressed the need for more market traders and volunteers for the upcoming Heritage Open Day. Jordan emphasized the importance of attracting new market traders, as two long-standing traders have recently departed. He expressed that Wisbech market is still reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized the necessity of reviving the market by bringing in new vendors.
In addition to seeking market traders, Jordan also put out a call for volunteers to assist with opening and managing the building during the two weekends of the Heritage Open Day, scheduled for this month. The council is currently in the midst of renewing allotment tenancies for the upcoming year, which are set to commence in October.
Jordan also commended the success of the Wisbech Rock Festival, describing it as a significant achievement for the council. He noted the continued popularity of Wisbech Castle, highlighting its appeal for paranormal investigations, various activities, and occasional wedding bookings. Moreover, the council has proceeded with the sale of the toilet block at Exchange Square in Wisbech and has initiated the installation of Christmas lights, acquiring additional lights to enhance the festive display.
The community’s First Responders recently received a grant of £1,338 from the council, following approval at a prior meeting. Jordan shared a letter of gratitude from the responders expressing appreciation for the funding and emphasizing the importance of raising their profile to attract more volunteers and expand their services.
Overall, Jordan’s report shed light on various ongoing initiatives and projects within the Wisbech community, illustrating the council’s commitment to supporting local events and services. From revitalizing the market to organizing Heritage Open Day and ensuring the smooth operation of community facilities like Wisbech Castle, the council remains dedicated to enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. With a focus on community engagement and support, these efforts aim to foster a vibrant and resilient local environment for all inhabitants.
