After taking a hiatus of over three years, the Fleet Foxes have made a comeback with their latest single, “Can I Believe You.” The song is part of their upcoming album, “Shore,” which is set to be released on September 22, lead singer Robin Pecknold announced. This news comes following the passing of the band’s former producer, Richard Swift, who had contributed greatly to their sound.
In an interview with NPR, Pecknold discussed the band’s decision to release the album on the fall equinox, stating that it felt like a fitting time as the equinox symbolizes “light in the darkness.” The new single, “Can I Believe You,” captures the essence of the band’s trademark sound while introducing a more upbeat tempo and vibrant energy. The song’s lyrics touch on themes of uncertainty and doubt, a departure from their previously introspective and contemplative pieces.
Additionally, the Fleet Foxes have unveiled a preview of another track from the album, titled “Sunblind,” which pays tribute to late musicians like Jeff Buckley and Richard Swift. This nod to musical influences reflects the band’s growth and evolution since their last album release. Pecknold shared that creating the new album involved a collaborative effort with the band members contributing their ideas and talents, resulting in a more cohesive and dynamic sound.
The Fleet Foxes have also announced a virtual concert that will showcase songs from their upcoming album, “Shore.” The performance is set to take place on the YouTube channel of the band’s label, Anti-Records, on September 22, the same day as the album release. Fans can look forward to experiencing the band’s music in a new format, as they adapt to the challenges posed by the current global situation.
Despite the loss of Richard Swift, the Fleet Foxes have continued to push forward and create music that resonates with their audience. “Shore” promises to be a blend of the band’s signature folk-rock sound with new elements that showcase their growth as musicians. As they navigate the complexities of the music industry and the world at large, the Fleet Foxes remain committed to sharing their music and connecting with their fans on a deeper level.
