This project marks Nelson’s 78th studio album, showcasing his dedication to honoring the work of revered songwriters and artists by releasing entire albums dedicated to their craft.

Throughout his illustrious career, Nelson has spotlighted the works of various icons, including Harlan Howard, Ray Price, George Gershwin, Rodney Crowell, and Frank Sinatra. Nelson and Haggard, longtime friends and collaborators, previously joined forces for three successful albums: “Pancho and Lefty” (1983), “Last of the Breed” (2007), and “Django and Jimmie” (2015), showcasing the magic of their musical partnership.

For “Workin’ Man,” Nelson carefully selected his favorite tracks from Haggard’s extensive catalog. The album features a diverse array of songs spanning Haggard’s career, from his early hits like “Swinging Doors” and “Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down” to his later classics such as “Mama Tried,” “Okie From Muskogee,” “If We Make It Through December,” and “Ramblin’ Fever,” encapsulating the breadth and depth of Haggard’s musical legacy.

Produced by Nelson and seasoned collaborator Mickey Raphael, the album was recorded at Nelson’s Pedernales Studios in Austin. Notably, these sessions also marked the final recordings with Nelson’s longtime Family band members, including his sister Bobbie Nelson and Paul English. With Bobbie on piano and English on drums, joined by Raphael on harmonica, Kevin Smith on bass, and Billy English on drums and percussion, the album promises to capture the essence of Haggard’s timeless songs through Nelson’s unique artistic vision.
