New scoreboard illuminated for the first time at Rockets game
A cutting-edge digital scoreboard positioned at the center of Prospera Place made its debut during a recent Kelowna Rockets game, illuminating the arena with its impressive size, a whopping 750 percent larger than its predecessor. The upgraded scoreboard, the result of a $5.1 million investment in arena enhancements funded by the city, added a dazzling touch to the Rockets’ match against the Kamloops Blazers.
Manufactured by Daktronics, a prominent company based in Brookings, South Dakota, the scoreboard was chosen from among 18 competing companies who bid for the city contract. Alongside the remarkable scoreboard, the arena received several other upgrades as part of the city-funded project. These enhancements include a superior audio system, complimentary public Wi-Fi, generous 98-inch display screens in concession areas, two brand-new electric Zambonis, and enhanced media facilities. Additionally, Kelowna has the privilege of hosting the prestigious Memorial Cup, Canada’s esteemed major junior hockey championship, in May of the upcoming year. As the host city, the Rockets have already secured a spot as one of the four competing teams in the tournament.
Mayor Tom Dyas expressed his excitement for the enhanced experience that these upgrades will offer to fans and families attending events at the arena. “When fans and families come to events, we want them to have the best possible experience,” Mayor Dyas remarked. The new scoreboard, coupled with the variety of enhancements, is sure to elevate the overall experience for attendees of events hosted at Prospera Place.
This significant investment in arena upgrades reflects the city’s commitment to providing top-tier entertainment experiences for its residents and visitors. Not only does the new scoreboard add a captivating visual element to games and events, but the additional improvements such as the advanced audio system, Wi-Fi access, and state-of-the-art Zambonis contribute to creating a more enjoyable and immersive environment for spectators. The city’s investment in these upgrades underscores its dedication to fostering a vibrant and thriving entertainment scene in Kelowna.
The debut of the new digital scoreboard marks a milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance the arena’s facilities and create memorable experiences for attendees. As Kelowna prepares to host the Memorial Cup next year, these upgrades ensure that the city is well-equipped to welcome teams, fans, and visitors to a world-class sporting event. With its state-of-the-art amenities and cutting-edge technology, Prospera Place stands as a premier destination for entertainment and sporting events in the region.
