Foghat, a veteran British rock band that achieved fame in 1975 with their hit song “Slow Ride,” is still “Drivin’ On” with the release of their Grammy-nominated album “Sonic Mojo.” Lead guitarist Bryan Bassett expressed his joy in continuing to perform live, comparing the experience to breathing, still feeling the same excitement now as he did when playing in a basement with an amplifier.

The band is set to participate in a show at The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Worcester alongside Starship featuring Mickey Thomas on October 3. This double-header brings together two iconic bands that have been staples of the music industry for decades. Mickey Thomas, known for his time with Jefferson Starship and for hits like “Fooled Around and Fell in Love,” will share the stage with Foghat for what promises to be a memorable night of classic rock hits and energetic performances.

When asked about the upcoming performance, Bassett hinted at a setlist that would include a mix of Foghat’s popular ’70s songs, a selection of blues classics, and tracks from “Sonic Mojo.” “Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blues,” he joked, summarizing the variety expected during the concert.

Foghat’s unique blend of blues, hard rock, and boogie, coupled with their distinctive use of slide guitar, has garnered them significant success over the years. The band boasts an impressive collection of eight gold records, one platinum album, and one double platinum record, reflecting their enduring popularity and influence in the music industry.

Formed in London in 1971 by former members of Savoy Brown, Foghat underwent several lineup changes before establishing themselves as a prominent force in the American music scene. Despite these changes, the band’s core members, including drummer Roger Earl and original lead vocalist and guitarist David “Lonesome Dave” Peverett, persevered through a heavy touring schedule to cultivate their fan base and solidify their reputation as a top-tier act.

Over the years, Foghat has evolved and adapted, with Bassett joining the band in 1999 and contributing to their continued success. Following the passing of Peverett and lead guitarist Rod Price, Bassett emerged as a crucial member of the group, reinforcing Foghat’s commitment to honoring their classic songs and engaging their fans with new material like “Sonic Mojo.”

Bassett reflected on the band’s longevity, admitting that many ’70s groups have undergone lineup changes but stressed that Foghat’s dedication to their songbook remains unwavering. He emphasized the importance of preserving the band’s legacy through live performances, ensuring that audiences experience the same energy and passion that have defined Foghat’s music for decades.

Looking ahead to future projects, Bassett revealed that Foghat has begun work on a new album, with plans to include a mix of studio recordings and live tracks. The band’s enduring appeal, coupled with their timeless songs and enthusiastic fan base, continues to drive them forward as they navigate the ever-changing landscape of the music industry.

As Foghat celebrates their 50th anniversary and looks to the future with optimism, the band’s commitment to their craft, their fans, and their legacy remains as strong as ever. With new music on the horizon and a dedicated fan base spanning multiple generations, Foghat’s journey continues, ensuring that their timeless rock ‘n’ roll spirit endures for years to come.
