Top 8 bands not to miss at Levitation Fest 2025, Austin’s largest rock festival

0

This year’s Levitation Fest brings high expectations following a change in its venue to the Palmer Events Center after years of being scattered across various locations along Red River Street. This change may remind people of the older Fun Fun Fun Fest at Auditorium Shores. However, for those who preferred the multi-venue format, there’s no need to worry. After the daytime and evening shows conclude at Palmer, separate night concerts will take place at venues in and around the Red River Cultural District and beyond.

Originally known as Austin Psych Fest, Levitation Fest was established in 2008 by four high school friends, including two members from the psych rock band Black Angels, Christian Bland and Alex Maas, along with James Oswald and current festival director Rob Fitzpatrick. The founders discussed the festival’s inception in an interview last year.

Among the lineup of bands set to perform at the festival, here are some recommendations on which acts to check out:

Warmduscher
This London-based post-punk band initially caught attention with their 2018 album “Whale City,” but it was their 2019 release, “Tainted Lunch,” that solidified their position. Tracks like “Midnight Dipper” and “I Got Friends” strike a perfect balance between new wave staccato and electronic embellishments.

Boy Harsher
Known for their new wave electronic sound, Boy Harsher evolved their style from their debut EP “Lesser Man” to albums like “Country Girl Uncut” (2019) and “Careful” the same year. While some did not resonate with their 2022 single “Burn It Down,” many are eager to catch their show at Levitation Fest.

Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol
A standout rock band in Austin, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol offers a unique sound that sets them apart. Their 2022 album “Doom Wop” received acclaim, and their latest record “Big Dumb Riffs” is highly anticipated.

Model/Actriz
Known for their high-energy performances, Model/Actriz blend elements of rave and dance music into their sets. Their 2024 album “Pirouette” continues their trend of delivering captivating music.

La Femme
With a discography dating back to 2013, French band La Femme’s latest release, “Rock Machine,” showcases their evolution. Melding ethereal synth-pop with electroclash influences, they promise an enthralling live experience.

DAIISTAR
Despite their international acclaim, DAIISTAR remains a hidden gem in Austin’s music scene. Their debut album “Good Time” brought a refreshing energy, and their live performances are not to be missed.

Being Dead
This Austin-based band captures the essence of the city’s music scene, offering genuine and heartfelt tracks. Their most recent album, “EELS,” features standout songs like “Dragons II” that appeal to the soul.

Pavement
As a headline act bringing a wave of nostalgia, Pavement’s timeless tunes like “Cut Your Hair” and “Harness Your Hopes” continue to resonate with audiences. Their biopic, “Pavements,” adds another layer to their storied career.

Overall, Levitation Fest promises to be a showcase of diverse and compelling musical talent, offering attendees a mix of established acts and up-and-coming performers across various genres.
