Good Reverend, a Columbus rock quartet, is set to mark the release of their latest album, “Sweet Tea and Cigarettes,” with a live show at Ace of Cups on October 4th. Jeff Meyers Jr., who kickstarted the creation of this album during the early stages of the pandemic, attributes his inspiration to the pressures that mounted during the lockdown. Meyers admits that when he began writing the songs, he didn’t initially notice any common themes. He explains, “I was just more focused on this idea that, man, I’m stuck here in this place and we’re not allowed to go anywhere and I just want to see something explode or set on fire.” Throughout the creative process, Meyers felt the urge to bring forth intense energy and emotion with his guitar, and this desire is evident in the new album’s powerful, electrifying riffs reminiscent of bands like Queens of the Stone Age.

Despite Meyers’ initial impression that the songs did not share a lyrical connection, he eventually realized that certain themes did emerge upon reflection. One major theme revolves around self-realizations he reached while grappling with himself during the initial wave of the pandemic. Another theme involves finding moments of joy in dark times, emphasizing the idea that positivity can arise even in challenging circumstances.

Good Reverend’s new album demonstrates a significant departure from the stillness of the initial pandemic period, pulsating with hard-charging energy that is both captivating and intense. With a lineup consisting of Jeff Meyers Jr. on vocals, Larry Doyle on guitar, Aaron Cottrell on bass, and Jason Winner on drums, the band is geared up to thrill audiences with their dynamic sound. To amplify the excitement surrounding the album launch, Good Reverend will perform at Ace of Cups alongside Two Cow Garage and G. Finesse on October 4th.

“Sweet Tea and Cigarettes” captures the essence of the band’s creative spirit, channeling a diverse range of emotions and experiences that resonate with listeners. The album is the product of introspection, self-discovery, and the pursuit of joy amid challenging times. The tracks are infused with intricate guitar work, pounding rhythms, and raw, emotive vocals that showcase the band’s depth and versatility.

In a music scene where authenticity and passion are highly valued, Good Reverend stands out for their genuine, unfiltered approach to songwriting and performance. As they prepare to unveil “Sweet Tea and Cigarettes” to the world, the band invites fans to immerse themselves in a sonic journey filled with intensity, emotion, and unbridled energy.
