Pop sensation Mariah Carey is once again hinting at the release of her little-known alternative rock album from 1995, nearly three decades after Sony Records halted its initial launch, NME disclosed.

In a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the Grammy-award winner shared that she is in talks to potentially release “Someone’s Ugly Daughter,” an album she collaborated on with the band Chick all those years ago.

Unsure of who currently owns the rights to the album, Carey expressed her desire to explore the possibility of finally sharing this hidden gem with her fans. “I don’t know which record label this is owned by. I don’t think it’s any of them because it’s just the way that it went down. But let’s discuss…” she mentioned during her chat with Fallon.

Unveiled to the public in 2020 through Carey’s memoir, “The Making of Mariah Carey,” the project showcased vocals from her friend Clarissa, with Carey herself contributing as an underlying presence in the songs. Unfortunately, Sony’s stronghold on her career at that time prevented the release of what she considered an important creative endeavor.

Sharing her thoughts on her alternative music endeavor, Carey disclosed that the album became her escape, allowing her to dabble in a completely different genre. She mentioned that the recording sessions were a departure from her usual highly polished pop image, where she explored the breezy-grunge style of the era and embraced a more carefree persona.

While most of the songs on the album remain unheard by the general public, snippets have made their way onto YouTube over the years, allowing fans a rare glimpse into this unique musical chapter in Carey’s career.

During her candid conversation with Fallon, Carey discussed a different track from the Chick album, “Prom Queen,” as the host whimsically suggested that the album should be released in time for the holiday season. The alternative rock album, “Someone’s Ugly Daughter,” represented a departure from Carey’s usual music style, offering her a chance to express herself freely without the constraints of her polished pop persona.

In her memoir, Carey expressed her eagerness for these sessions, describing them as a way to break free, let loose, and embrace a raw, unedited version of herself. This alternative rock project allowed Carey to balance expressing her misery while finding moments of joy and laughter amidst the creative process.
