Inspired by Charlie Kirk’s message, rising Alabama band set to release single promoting unity
Alabama-based band, Red Clay Strays, found inspiration in the tragic death of activist Charlie Kirk to create a new single that emphasizes the importance of unity and understanding. Set to release on Friday, the standalone single titled “People Hatin’” carries a powerful message that aims to address the division and animosity prevalent in society today.
Lead singer Brandon Coleman discussed the band’s decision to release this particular single during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. He revealed that the group had written the song in April, initially planning to include it on their upcoming album. However, following Kirk’s assassination, they felt compelled to release it as a single to address the escalating political tensions that prioritize beliefs over humanity.
Coleman emphasized the need to move away from violence and hatred based on differing beliefs. He stated, “We’ve got to stop killing each other over beliefs, and hating each other over beliefs. Everybody’s race is different, everybody’s experiencing life different, and trying to figure it out the same as you are.” Rogan, acknowledging the destructive nature of hate, pointed out that celebrating hatred is fundamentally wrong, regardless of political affiliations. He discussed the prevalence of animosity in society, attributing much of it to the negative impacts of social media.
While the podcast touched briefly on the upcoming single, there were hints about the band’s much-anticipated next album. Rogan acknowledged having heard a rough cut of the album, expressing his excitement and praising the band’s work. Coleman hinted at a potential summer release next year, although the final timeline remains uncertain as they continue to work on the mixes.
The podcast also delved into the band’s journey, highlighting their humble beginnings and the challenges they faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Band members resorted to working as Uber drivers to make ends meet, showcasing their dedication to their craft despite setbacks. Reflecting on their early days playing cover songs, the band members reminisced about their perseverance and the gradual transition to national recognition and success.
The Red Clay Strays have come a long way since their inception, opening for prominent bands, winning awards, and headlining major events. Despite their growing fame, the band remains grounded in their roots, reflecting on the difficulties they encountered along the way. Through their music, they aim to spread a message of unity and compassion, urging listeners to rise above divisiveness and embrace understanding and empathy for all.
