Syracuse musician signs record deal, ready to share her music with the world
Sydney Irving, a talented singer-songwriter from Syracuse, has been making waves in the music scene, combining elements of Americana and indie rock. At just 22 years old, she has graced numerous stages across Central New York, sharing her unique blend of Americana, pop, rock, and modern folk music since the age of 14. Now, with a record deal from Deko Entertainment, a label distributed by Warner Music Group/ADA, Irving is set to release her new album, “Unfashioned Creatures,” on October 17 on CD and all major streaming platforms.
The upcoming album features 12 songs, all of which were either written or co-written by Irving. From the punk-inspired “You Can’t Forget About Me” to the power-pop styled “Seasons Change” and the acoustic ballad “Dreaming,” Irving showcases her versatility as an artist. Described by her guitar teacher as embodying an “epic acoustic” sound, Irving draws inspiration from a diverse range of influences, including Jack Johnson, The Ramones, Tom Petty, and Taylor Swift.
During her junior and senior years of high school, Irving found herself immersed in songwriting, often starting with an acoustic guitar in her bedroom and crafting lyrics that resonated with her personal experiences. Working closely with producer Steve Sopchak, Irving fleshed out her songs, occasionally drawing on dream-inspired ideas to add depth to her music. With a strong emphasis on creating music that feels timeless, Irving aims to produce songs that will stand the test of time.
Since graduating in 2021, Irving has been actively performing, averaging over a hundred shows per year. She has shared the stage with notable artists such as Midland, Barns Courtney, Martina McBride, Gavin DeGraw, and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. While Irving enjoys putting her unique spin on covers like Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” her true passion lies in sharing her original music with audiences.
Raised in a musical family, Irving’s journey began at the age of 9 when her father gifted her a guitar. Recognizing her talent and passion for music, her parents supported her early endeavors, leading her to attend Little Rockers Camp at The Redhouse Arts Center in Syracuse. With two previous full-length albums under her belt, “Hello Stranger” and “The Halfmoon Sessions,” Irving’s latest release, “Unfashioned Creatures,” marks a significant artistic evolution and growth in her songwriting and production skills.
Looking ahead, Irving plans to bring her music to audiences across the U.S. on tour, with aspirations of headlining shows at iconic venues like Red Rocks and attending the Grammy Awards. With a newfound partnership with Deko Entertainment, Irving’s music is set to reach a broader audience, solidifying her place in the music industry. Recognized for her talent and dedication, Irving has received accolades such as the 2020 Young Adult Artist of the Year by The International Singer Songwriters Association and Best Pop Artist at the 2023 Mississippi Music Awards.
As she gears up for the release of “Unfashioned Creatures” and plans for future endeavors, Irving expresses her gratitude to her supporters and looks forward to sharing her music with the world. The album release party on October 22 at the Heritage Hill Brewhouse in Pompey promises to be a celebration of Irving’s musical journey and the beginning of an exciting chapter in her career.
