Dublin’s Hellfire Club Inspires New Video Game

“With the Hellfire Club being such an iconic, dark place already, we wanted to emphasise that as much as possible in the game,” says art director, Maeve Ryan.
“The eerie, shadowy artwork in the game is heavily influenced by classic illustrators like Gustave Doré, Francisco Goya and Harry Clarke. We wanted to evoke the sense of foreboding that comes from exploring an abandoned, creepy building.”
Aside from the art style, music also plays a crucial role in setting the tone of the game. Composer Seán Daly explains how they went about creating the perfect auditory experience for Eyes of Hellfire.
“The music in the game is designed to be tense but not too scary,” Seán says. “We wanted to keep players on edge and add to the overall atmosphere without making it unplayable for people who aren’t into full-on horror games.
“I listened to a lot of Irlandaisse music as preparation for this project, as it has that mournful, haunting quality that felt really appropriate for bringing the ghosts of the past into the present.”

In Eyes of Hellfire, you and your friends take on the roles of members of the Hellfire Club, each burdened with a curse that must be lifted by exploring the lodge and uncovering its secrets. But beware, some players may not be as they seem, with the Host character having their own sinister agenda.
The game centres around social deduction mechanics, where players must figure out who among them is hiding their true identity while working together to survive the night in the lodge.
“The social deduction elements are all about reading people, figuring out if someone’s acting strange, and coming up with a plan with friends to navigate the challenges inside the club,” says Len. “There are plenty of forks in the road where players have to make tough decisions and you never quite know who you can trust.”
