SUGAR Makes Comeback After 30 Years with New Music and Live Performances

Alternative rock veterans SUGAR, comprised of Bob Mould, David Barbe, and Malcolm Travis, have made their grand return after a hiatus spanning over 30 years. The band recently unveiled their first new track in three decades, titled “House of Dead Memories,” which was recorded in June 2025 at Tiny Telephone Oakland and is now available through Granary Music/BMG.

The band’s revival also includes their comeback to the stage with live performances scheduled for the first time since January 1995. SUGAR has lined up shows at Webster Hall in New York on May 2 and 3, 2026, followed by performances at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on May 23 and 24. In addition to their live appearances, fans can look forward to a special Record Store Day Black Friday reissue of their 1992 debut album, “Copper Blue – The Singles Collection.” This exclusive 4LP box set will feature classic singles, elusive B-sides, and live recordings from their memorable Chicago Cabaret Metro show, all meticulously restored to vinyl.

Reflecting on the band’s inception, Mould reminisced, describing SUGAR as a meteorite that took everyone by surprise. The trio navigated the unpredictable waters of success with dedication and gratitude for the exhilarating journey. Formed in late 1991, SUGAR swiftly achieved both critical acclaim and commercial prosperity with their acclaimed works such as “Copper Blue,” “Beaster,” and “File Under: Easy Listening.” Bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis expressed their eagerness for both existing and new fans to witness the reformed trio, with Mould underscoring the profound significance of their long-awaited comeback.
