Orillia debuts new single “Weather” on Far West Records

Chicago-based musician Andrew Marczak, under the moniker Orillia, is set to release his second album, Fire-Weed, through Far West Records. In anticipation of this upcoming album, Marczak unveils the third single, a unique rendition of his track “Weather,” previously recorded with his indie rock band, The Roof Dogs. The Big Takeover is excited to present this fresh take on “Weather” to listeners today.

Recorded during the winter months using a borrowed Tascam tape machine, Marczak collaborated with Chicago country group Local Memory and enlisted George Rezek from Future Crib for engineering and mixing duties. The single features a range of talented guest musicians, including fiddle player Lydia Cash, banjoist Dylan Sage, and Marczak’s partner, Peach, providing harmonious vocals.

Speaking about the inspiration behind “Weather,” Marczak reveals that the song emerged during the uncertainty of the pandemic lockdown. Reflecting on the anxiety and tension of that time, the track delves into themes of childhood memories and the unsettling connection between violence and art in American society. It weaves a narrative centered around a coastal serial killer and a young admirer, viewed through the lens of a child’s perspective.

Originally featured on The Roof Dogs’ album Here You Are in 2023, “Weather” undergoes a transformative makeover with Orillia’s new rendition, incorporating country elements such as fiddle and banjo arrangements. Marczak’s vocals infuse the track with a subtle twang, breathing fresh energy into the song while retaining its rock roots.
