Bobby Fish recently spoke out about the controversial moment during CM Punk’s early days in AEW when he unexpectedly kicked out of Punk’s finishing move, the GTS, in October 2021.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Fish explained the incident and the drama that unfolded backstage. He clarified that he did not intend to take matters into his own hands but rather reacted on instinct when something unusual happened during the pinfall.

According to Fish, the real issue arose not from the in-ring moment but from Punk’s behavior backstage. Fish claimed that instead of addressing the situation directly with him, Punk bypassed a direct conversation and went straight to Tony Khan, the AEW president.

Feeling slighted, Fish confronted Punk and Khan, but they promptly walked away. Fish later tried to speak with Punk a second time in his locker room, only to be met with dismissive responses. Fish described Punk’s behavior as passive-aggressive and not in line with how professionals should handle such situations.

In addition to the backstage tension, Fish took a jab at Punk’s MMA career, criticizing his representation of professional wrestling during his time in the UFC. Fish expressed disappointment that the unclear moment in the ring and Punk’s refusal to address the issue afterward soured their interaction.

Despite his intention to put Punk over in their match, Fish was left unsatisfied with how the situation played out and the lack of communication from Punk. The incident left a bad taste in Fish’s mouth and highlighted the importance of clear communication and professionalism in the wrestling industry.
