Soundgarden has finalized its latest album featuring the vocals of Chris Cornell following a legal dispute over royalties and recordings with the late singer’s estate and his widow, Vicky Cornell. The band is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The event will see a collaboration of former and current members of the band gracing the stage. Drummer Matt Cameron, guitarist Kim Thayil, current bassist Ben Shepherd, and original bassist Hiro Yamamoto are slated to perform, alongside guest appearances by Brandi Carlile, Nancy Wilson from Heart, Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains, Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, and Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless. Carlile, who previously sang at a tribute concert for Chris Cornell in 2019, shares a special bond with the band. Additional performances will include Bad Company, The White Stripes, and OutKast, with the ceremony being streamed on Disney+.

Reflecting on the induction and the late Chris Cornell, drummer Matt Cameron expressed mixed emotions, stating how bittersweet it is that Cornell will not be there to witness the recognition, considering his ever-evolving nature as an artist. Cameron believes Cornell would have cherished the acknowledgment, given his significant influence on the music industry. Guitarist Kim Thayil echoed similar sentiments in an interview with The Seattle Times, affirming his pride in the band’s accomplishments and highlighting the shifting dynamics of emotional responses in such circumstances. Thayil also underscored the band’s deep connection to Seattle, emphasizing the city’s pivotal role in shaping Soundgarden’s identity.

Chris Cornell tragically passed away in May 2017 at the age of 52, leaving behind the recordings of what would be the band’s final collaborative effort. Soundgarden has not disclosed a specific release date for the upcoming album. The completion of this album marks a poignant moment for the band, symbolizing the culmination of their musical journey together with Cornell.

In the wake of Cornell’s passing, the remaining members of Soundgarden have continued to honor his legacy through their music and performances. The completion of the final album serves as a tribute to Cornell’s enduring impact on the music industry and his lasting influence on the band. As Soundgarden prepares to enter the esteemed halls of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they carry with them not only their own legacy but also the indelible mark left by Chris Cornell.
